    Beena Kak’s Biography & Career

Beena Kak married Bharat Kak in the 1980s and entered politics, becoming an active member of the Congress Party. Furthermore, she had strong support from her sister, Kamla Bhasin, a staunch feminist and stentorian. She was later elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly as an MLA from the Sumerpur Constituency in 1985 and 1990. Most notably, she was elected as an MLA during the period 1993 to 1998, giving her another opportunity to serve the country.

Beena has worked as a Cabinet Minister in a variety of departments, including Women and Child Development, Art and Culture, Tourism, and Printing and Stationery, to name a few. She is, in fact, very close to the family of famed actor Salman Khan. However, following the 2003 elections, she was cast in the 2005 film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? This film was directed by David Dhawan and produced by Salman Khan’s brother, Sohail Khan. In this film, she played the mother of the protagonist, Samir, who was played by Salman Khan.

As a result, in 2008, she had the opportunity to play Khan’s mother in the film God Tussi Great Ho. Sohail Khan produced the film once more. She later appeared in several films, including Nanhe Jaisalmer and others.

Family, Relatives, and Other Relationships of Beena Kak

Dr. B.B. Bhasin is her brother, and Kusum Suri and Kamla Bhasin are her sisters. She was previously married to Bharat Kak, with whom she shares a son named Ankur Kak and a daughter named Amrita Kak.

    Career in politics

Bharat Kak, Kak’s ex-husband, is from a Kashmiri Pundit family who lives in Rajasthan. His family, originally from Kashmir, has lived in Rani, Rajasthan (in the Pali district) for over two centuries and has long had ties to the Nehru family, another Kashmiri Pandit family who settled in Rajasthan: the Nehrus had lived in Khetri, Rajasthan before Motilal Nehru moved to Allahabad in the late 1800s to practice law at the Allahabad High Court. Beena Kak became a member of the Congress Party in the early 1980s after marrying Bharat Kak with his aid. Her sister, Kamla Bhasin, was a stentorian and strong feminist, a position that was popular at the time.

In 1985, as part of Rajiv Gandhi’s much-touted efforts to bring ‘new blood’ into politics and the Congress party, several fashionable socialists and chatterati were inducted into the party and given election tickets, rather than party workers who had toiled quietly for years to support the party at the grassroots. Beena Kak was one of them, chosen over her unglamorous and hardworking husband because she was a woman, gratifyingly “gutsy,” and opinionated (in English, of course). The elections of 1985 took place during the ‘Congress wave’ that followed Indira Gandhi’s assassination, and most of these rootless chatterati were elected with little difficulty.
