The volume in the lung can be classified into four divisions: tidal volume, expiratory reserve volume, inspiratory reserve volume, and residual volume.
The Expiratory Reserve Volume is the disparity between FRC and residual volume. In a normal breath, the volume exhaled is known as the tidal volume. The inspiratory reserve volume is the volume that can be inhaled above tidal volume.
The expiratory reserve volume (ERV) is the maximum amount of air that can be exhaled after a normal exhalation. EVR can be exhaled 1000-1100 ml of air. Contrarily, the inspiratory reserve volume (IRV) is the additional pressure of air that can be inhaled. IVR can be inhaled 2500-3500 ml of air after a normal inhalation.
