Origins of the Family
Bibi Jagir Kaur was born on October 15, 1954, in the little village of Bhatnura in the district of Jalandhar. Her father and mother were Sardar Girdhara Singh and Smt. Parsin Kaur, respectively. Bibi Jagir Kaur came from a low-income family because her father was a member of the Indian Army. She has five sisters and three brothers: the eldest brother, Lt. Col. S. Joginder Singh, is an Indian Army officer, the second brother, S. Mohinder Singh, is a retired principal, and the youngest brother, Prof. Nirmal Singh, is a nuclear scientist.

Qualifications in Education

BibiJi gave birth to two daughters after the marriage: Harpreet Kaur and Rajneet Kaur.
BibiJi’s prosperity lasted only a few years, since her spouse died on September 3, 1983, after only three years of marriage with her. BibiJagir Kaur’s life was disturbed by this tragedy, but she did not allow herself to be shaken.
She committed her life to serving the public as a famous social activist while caring for her two girls (one and a half years old and the other two months old). She was quite good at juggling her family and social service duties.
The Political Journey of BibiJagir Kaur
The Akali Dal boycotted the Punjab assembly elections in 1992, staying out of the election conflict. Following this period, she received a ticket from Akali Dal Badal to run for SGPC elections in the Bholath constituency, which she won by a margin of 15052 votes.
This success served as her introduction into politics, as she ran for Punjab assembly elections in 1997 under the banner of Akali Dal Badal and set a new record for the largest margin of victory with a difference of 28027 votes. Even at an early stage, the government gave her the position of Cabinet Minister based on her political talents and popularity among the local population.
During these continuous celebrations, BibiJagir Kaur Ji was invited by the Karnataka Government, who honoured her with the “Bhagirath Award” in recognition of her efforts and hard work, as well as her high-end achievements.
